Eden Martelli is too busy fleeing the clutches of danger to realize she's running straight into the arms of a new love. Beau will go to the ends of the earth to keep Eden safe. But who's going to protect his heart from a woman who can't seem to trust again?

Speeding north through rural Maine, Eden Martelli wonders how her life came to this—on the run with her mute five-year-old son dozing fitfully in the passenger seat. When a breakdown leaves them stranded in Summer Harbor, Eden has no choice but to stay put through Christmas . . . even though they have no place to lay their heads.

Beau Callahan is a habitual problem solver—for other people anyway. He left the sheriff's department to take over his family's Christmas tree farm, but he's still haunted by the loss of his parents and struggling to handle his first Christmas alone.

When Eden shows up looking for work just as Beau's feisty aunt gets out of the hospital, Beau thinks he's finally caught a break. Eden is competent and dedicated—if a little guarded—and a knockout to boot. But, as he soon finds out, she also comes with a boatload of secrets.

Eden has been through too much to trust her heart to another man, but Beau is impossible to resist, and the feeling seems to be mutual. As Christmas Eve approaches, Eden's past catches up to her.

Beau will go to the ends of the earth to keep her safe. But who's going to protect his heart from a woman who can't seem to trust again?

On the run from her husband’s murderers, Eden Martelli and her young son pack their bags and leave for Summer Harbor, Maine. Reluctantly, Eden takes a job working for a family-owned Christmas tree farm in the quaint seaside town and quickly begins to intrigue her new boss, former sheriff deputy Beau Callahan. While Eden helps care for Beau’s ailing aunt, suspicions arise about Eden’s vague story. But are Beau’s misgivings strong enough to slow his growing feelings for Eden? While Eden tries to focus on keeping her son safe, Beau must wrestle with his own family tensions and emotional turmoil. Their relationship grows, fraught with danger but also filled with quiet moments approaching emotional and spiritual wholeness. With her usual deft touch, snappy dialogue, and knack for romantic tension, inspirational romance veteran Hunter (Married ’til Monday) will continue to delight romance fans with this first Summer Harbor release.

Love is the last thing on Eden's mind as she and her five-year-old son flee danger and are stranded by a snowstorm in Summer Harbor, ME. There she finds work as a caretaker for Beau Callahan's aunt. Although Beau is appealing, Eden fears that her past is about to catch up with her and that she will be powerless once again. VERDICT Hunter ("Chapel Spring" romances) inaugurates a new series with a story fraught with unease, introducing protagonists whose human flaws add authenticity. At times the tone is foreboding, but Eden comes to realize that God gives us strength to overcome fear and live the life He has meant for us. Hunter's fans will want this one.

Falling in love again is the last thing Eden Martelli has on her mind as she tries to outrun her past to protect her son's life. When she is forced to rely on the kindness of Beau Callahan, a Christmas tree farmer in rural Maine, however, sparks fly. Hunter (The Wishing Season, 2014) blends a fearful tale of fleeing danger and a heartwarming story of trust and second chances. Readers will thrill with a tingle down the spine when they realize what Eden is facing, and they will cheer as Beau fights to prove he's the man Eden deserves. Eden doesn't know whether she will ever be able to trust another man with her heart, though, even if Beau is everything she desires. Her son has grown to love Beau, too, but Eden knows she will never truly be free without becoming independent. Women will relate to Eden's struggle between wanting to stand on her own and longing for someone to take care of her. The will-they-won't-they pull will keep readers in suspense to the very end.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
