      Narrator Lauren Fortgang brings a cheerful warmth to Schaefer's audiobook about contemporary female friendship. A blend of memoir, psychology, sociology, and cultural criticism combines stories of Schaefer's own friendships--or the times in her life when she lacked female friends--and an examination of the way society and culture have viewed and valued friendships between women. Fortgang's easy, familiar delivery is a natural fit for Schaefer's personal recollections. The informality of her delivery, however, can make it difficult to discern where quotes from interviews or other sources begin and end, leading to an occasionally muddled listening experience.
