Throughout the narrative, James does an exceptional job of maintaining consistency as the main characters dance around their personal romance and the question of whether to out their relationship in the midst of a murder investigation that may connect to Cam's family. James's portrayals of Cam's many relatives as they deal with the tragedy play against the more neutral sounds of Nic's associates and family.
