When considering books on interior design, there's practical, and then there's pretty. While Havenly co-founders Mayer and Motayed do at times succumb to the ordinary, they also grade up their advice to the very utilitarian, especially for those puzzled about where to start, what to insist on, and items worthy of a splurge. Ripe with color layouts from themselves and their clients, their book first offers a synopsis of major pieces in each room, color (with very helpful hints about white paint), style, and styling. Style, by the way, means what sorts of lines, textures, and colors an individual prefers, while styling is the touch that makes a room real and personable. Among the more unusual features throughout are tips that come with training and experience (for instance, marrying one's personal style with one's partner's), notes on the golden ratio, and commonly asked questions (with answers).
