From the bestselling author of Queen of Cowboy: regrets and old heartbreaks are unearthed in this sweeping love story as hometown sweethearts get a second chance at love—and being a family.

Retired combat medic Jesse Ryan hasn't been home much since he enlisted twenty years ago. Now he's headed back to Texas to help take care of his aging foster parents and run Sunflower ranch. But when he gets there, he finds his parents' live-in nurse is Addison Hall, his high school best friend and the woman he always regretted leaving behind after their one steamy night together before he shipped out. He's not at all surprised that their chemistry is still sparking, but Jesse is shocked to learn Addy gave birth to a little girl about nine months after he left—his little girl.
Addy has her hands full as a single mom of a nineteen-year-old daughter who suddenly wants to rebel at everything. The last thing she needs is Jesse Ryan complicating her life even further, especially since she's always had a crush on the handsome cowboy. But the more time she spends with Jesse, the more she wonders what might happen if they finally let their friendship blossom into something more and became the family she'd always hoped for.

Includes the bonus novella Small Town Charm for the first time in print!

Bestseller Brown (Summertime on the Ranch) combines secret baby and second-chance romance tropes to charming effect in this small-town love story. Nurse Addison Hall and her 19-year-old daughter, Mia, live on Sunflower Ranch so that Addison can provide round-the-clock care for owner Sonny Ryan, who has multiple sclerosis. Now Jesse, Sonny’s son and Addison’s former best friend, returns to town to be with his father after retiring from the air force. It’s the first time Addison has seen him in 20 years, and she’s been hiding a huge secret: he’s Mia’s father. Soon after Jesse’s arrival, Mia takes off with her deadbeat boyfriend, sending the adults who care for her into a frenzy. As they navigate this sticky situation, Jesse forgives Addison’s decision to keep Mia a secret (perhaps more quickly than the reader will), and the pair inch toward happily ever after. Brown excels at creating big-hearted, appealing characters and small-town color; readers will fall for both the endearing couple and the stellar supporting cast. This is a delight.

Narrator Chelsea Hatfield brings the listener to Sunflower Ranch in Texas as Jesse Ryan returns home after 20 years as an army medic. There he finds his former best friend, Addison Hall, living on his family's ranch with her teenage daughter, Mia. Hatfield's performance provides a strong sense of Texas without being overdone. She portrays Addison as strong and self-assured and Jesse as kind and caring yet still masculine. Mia has the most dynamic change as the teen develops from a willful spoiled brat to a mature young adult. Hatfield successfully conveys her maturation by moving from a predominantly petulant tone to a more pleasant one. Listeners will be engaged by the renewed romance between Addison and Jesse.
