An ambitious, non-fiction comic book experience depicting true stories of UFO abductions with an eye to capturing the strange essence of those encounters.
From the New York Times bestselling and multi-Eisner award-winning co-creator of Something is Killing the Children, The Nice House on the Lake, The Department of Truth.

In Blue Book, teaming with artist Michael Avon Oeming and letterer Aditya Bidikar, James Tynion IV presents what he calls his “True Weird” stories. Tales of ordinary people encountering the strange and the impossible.
Volume 1 retells the infamous case of the abduction of Betty and Barney Hill of New Hampshire in 1961 — the very first widely-publicized UFO abduction that went on to shape and influence all future encounter stories.

On September 19, 1961, Betty and Barney Hill were driving overnight from Montreal to their home in Portsmouth, NH, when they noticed an oddly shaped, eerily glowing object in the sky that appeared to be following them. Hours later, they arrived home with no memory of the final few hours of their drive or any idea what to make of the strange markings on their car and on Barney's body. After unsuccessfully entreating the U.S. Air Force and the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena for help understanding their experience, the Hills turn to hypnosis. The detailed account that ultimately emerged, of their experience of being abducted and experimented upon by extraterrestrial beings, is attributed to sparking widespread interest in UFO encounters and continues to influence UFO-abduction narratives and research in the field of UFOlogy to this day. VERDICT Tynion's (The Nice House on the Lake) debut volume of a promised ongoing series of nonfiction "True Weird" stories provides a thrilling account of the Hills' experience and a heartbreaking evocation of the price they paid for sharing their story over the rest of their lives. This edition collects material previously released online.
