The trail leads him to impoverished gentrywoman Miss Grace Hannah, who secretly finds a sense of self and adventure through smuggling. When Julian seduces Grace for her secrets, the last thing he expects is to find himself becoming enthralled by the possible traitor, but when they’re caught in a compromising position, he sincerely offers to marry her. When Grace finally discovers Julian’s true motives, she believes their marriage is a lie, but she’s still driven to help him find the real culprit and save her smuggler friends.
