Thomas MacGowan has adored Elizabeth Douglas from the first time he saw her. But he was a blacksmith's son and she was the daughter of the local lord, and they both knew the social chasm between them was far too great to accommodate anything but friendship. As the years passed, Thom honed his skills and acquired lands and a knighthood.
