The Texas rancher and navy SEAL who fathered Bristol Lockett's son died a hero's death...or so she was told. Yet when Laramie "Coop" Cooper strolls into her exhibit at an art gallery three years later, he's very much alive—and still making her pulse zing. The all-consuming chemistry between them is as undeniable now as it was then, but Bristol won't risk her heart—or their son's. Little does Bristol know he's determined to win over his unexpected family at any cost!

At the start of this tepid addition to Jackson’s Westmoreland series (after The Rancher Returns), American artist Bristol Lockett learns that the father of her unborn child, with whom she’d had a three-day affair while visiting Paris months earlier, has been killed while on a mission. Fortunately, Navy SEAL Laramie Cooper was only captured, not killed, and after 11 months he’s rescued and brought to New York, where he and Bristol reunite. When Bristol introduces him to his now two-year-old son, Laramie falls easily into fatherhood despite having no idea the child existed. He becomes determined to play an active part in his son’s life—which means he’ll also see a lot of Bristol. The young boy (who has great speech skills for his age) embraces his father, without Bristol having to do any real explaining. Readers will applaud the couple’s good parenting skills, but Laramie’s wishy-washy behavior is as uninspiring as the colorless dialogue. The premise of this story is on the mark, but the delivery falls short. Agent: Pattie Steele-Perkins, Steele-Perkins Literary. -

Pete Ohms's narration breathes life into the romance between artist Bristol Lockett and Navy SEAL Laramie (Coop) Cooper. It begins with a Christmas fling and a surprise pregnancy, followed by an unexpected reunion several years later. In an anxious voice, Pete Ohms portrays Bristol's totally valid fears for her heart and that of her two-year-old son. She had been told that Coop died, but now he's coming back into their lives, wreaking havoc on the small family. Coop's deep Texas drawl and authoritative military mannerisms balance well with his son's sweet baby talk. Ohms speaks in a sincere and believable voice throughout the audiobook as Coop pursues Bristol. This is Jackson's latest in her long standing Westmoreland Legacy series.
