Yates continues her "Carsons of Lone Rock" series (following Rancher's Forgotten Rival) with a second chance at love between Kit Carson and Shelby Sohappy. Shelby is still recovering from the death of her first husband and coming to terms with the attraction she has always felt for their neighbor Kit. When the families were feuding, it was easy to ignore, but now that their siblings are marrying, the attraction comes to a head. One night leads to a surprise pregnancy. Faced with these consequences, Shelby and Kit must build a relationship where they can both be happy. The attraction is clear, but Kit must convince Shelby that they can be a family. VERDICT Yates nicely depicts the slowly developing trust between the characters, and though the road is long, the happy ending is deserved.--Brigid Black
