The worst things about travel might be the crowds and the collective negative impact all those sightseers have on the very sites they wish to view. A solution to both problems is to travel to sites that are not on everyone's radar. Gathered by over 30 travel experts, these are the places those "in the know" know. The book is arranged by type of experience or locale. Each entry details the alternative site with a short narrative explanation and photos. Instead of going to the pyramids of Giza, why not go just a bit south to an even older site and see the pyramids of Saqqara and Dahshur? An alternative use of the book is to find even more places and experiences like those one has loved. Want something like the astounding beauty of the cherry blossoms in Japan? Go to the Azores and see the hydrangeas. Some alternative sites are in the same country, even the same city, as the crowd-mobbed locale, but others trade continents, creating an eye-opening global tour.
