Loner detective Roland March returns for another grisly mystery (after Pattern of Wounds). A headless corpse has been found, and March must partner with his onetime nemesis, Jerry Lorenz, to solve the murder. The FBI informs the two detectives that the victim was an undercover agent tracking illegal firearms heading to Mexico. They want the case buried in order to protect other undercover agents, but that doesn't stop March and Lorenz from investigating on their own. VERDICT Plot-driven and suspenseful, with well-developed characters, this should appeal to readers of Terri Blackstock.
