      Hahn (Built to Last) takes readers behind the curtain of the country music industry in this sassy rom-com. Six years before the events of the novel, superstar Lorelai Jones sang a protest song calling for gun control at a concert—and she’s been persona non grata in Nashville ever since. Hahn takes her time setting the stage, which makes for a slow start, but the backstory will put country fans in mind of the band the Chicks. Now, however, Lorelai’s ready to reclaim her place in the spotlight with the help of her longtime friend, indie music producer Craig Boseman. Neither can forget the one magical night they shared following the scandal, but they’re determined to keep their relationship friendly and professional. Unsurprisingly, their resolve doesn’t last long. Soon the pair are writing each other erotic poems and all-out love songs, the text of which adds some fun to the proceedings. Hahn surrounds her protagonists with diverse friends and family who act as confidants and cheerleaders for the couple, adding some flair to what would otherwise be a straightforward comeback story. Those most familiar with the country scene and its artists will especially appreciate how deeply the music and culture is woven into the plot.

      Singer-songwriter Lorelai Jones was a rising star in the country music world until she closed out a big arena show by performing Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young's "Ohio" in protest over another mass shooting. After being dumped by her agent and her fans, Drake, her celebrity fianc�, cancels their wedding on social media, and Lorelai moves to Michigan to teach elementary school. Drake's songwriting bandmate, Craig Huckleberry Boseman, leaves the band and becomes a successful record producer. Six years later, Lorelai sends Huck a new song, and he invites her to come to Nashville to record an album and offers to rent her the other half of his duplex. Hahn (Built to Last, 2022) has Lorelai and Huck alternate as narrators as Lorelai fights for a comeback and Huck tries to get the recognition he's owed for his songs. A terrific mutually supportive friendship morphs into something sizzlingly hot and sexy. Hahn deserves a CMA (Country Music Association Award) for her insider's depiction of the industry in this thoroughly satisfying romance.
